ASAC is proud to be members of two organizations in California that bring added value to ASA members:

• California Coalition for Construction in the Classroom

• Construction Industry Legislative Council

The California Coalition for Construction in the Classroom, (CCCC), was formed in 1998 to promote the construction industry as a career option to parents, students, teachers and school administrators.  CCCC represents the entire construction industry, including specialty contractors, general contractors, architects, engineers and inspectors.

CCCC, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, was founded by the California Association of Sheet Metal Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA), all eight of its local chapters and its parent organization.

Due to the retirement of our highly skilled national workforce and the increase of construction activity, we must recruit 240,000 new workers each year for the next ten years. In a high-growth state like California, the need is even more pressing.  This shortage means that companies must spend more to train workers and that contractors are less competitive because they are unprepared to build new projects.  Both of these factors have contributed to increased costs in construction.

The goal is to attract highly qualified workers into the industry.  To do this, CCCC promotes a multi-faceted program, which focuses on career awareness and exploration of the trades.

The Construction Industry Legislative Council (CILC) is a consortium of construction trade associations.  CILC was formed in 1947 to provide legislative and regulatory analysis and information to its member associations, as well as legislative advocacy.,

CILC is an industry leader and actively co-sponsored legislation to cap retentions.  It is also actively lobbies a variety of other construction issues being considered by our state lawmakers including prompt-pay, bidding procedures, pre-qualification, Design/Build, public and private contracting, and bonding.

This past session, CILC has actively defended the subcontractors from harmful legislation that threatened the recent California Supreme Court ruling which struck down Pay-if-Paid clauses.  CILC actively participates in the contractor State License Board activities and provides guidance and opinion to the CSLB and the CILC members.

CILC serves construction associations as an "information hub" and a forum for analyzing bills and political situations.
